The Comte de Saint-Germain is living in relative peace and prosperity in the village of Orgon in 14th century France. But when the Black Death spreads through Medieval Europe, its ugly "blood roses" blossoming on the bodies of young and old, foreigner and alchemist Saint-Germain and his immortal manservant Roger fall under suspicion from both sacred and secular authorities. To avoid discovery of his true nature, Saint-Germain is forced to roam in disguise through the tragic and often bizarre events of the devastating plague years.
