In this installment of the Doctor Orient Occult series, Dr. Owen Orient, the psychic detective, cures a senator's daughter of a fatal disease and then goes underground to become enlightened. He ends up at a protest, where he meets a psychic child and a bookie. The bookie eventually hires him to deliver a package by steamship, and it is on this voyage that he meets Raga Six, a vampire who has been undead for hundreds of years. He falls in love with her, tries to protect her from evil forces, and hones his psychic powers.
